| Ok, I know some of us here are fans and collectors of action figures and other toys. Recently, one of our members (SEGAGIGA), posted a topic talking about the RX-78 Gundam, titled: Robot Scale Models. If you haven't read that post yet, SEGAGIGA followed the progress of the construction of the 18-meter tall Gundam, from early June until its completion (around mid-June, our rough estimate), in Odaiba, Japan. Just today, I read an article talking about this popular Japanese cartoon series turning 30! Yes, I know most of us are not even born yet when it first aired, but I'm pretty sure you've watched re-runs (probably from older relatives that are anime fanatics, and collections of people posted over the internet). Reading the said article, I also just found out what the real purpose of that structure is. - Quote :
- "To mark the 30th anniversary of Gundam’s launch, a massive replica of the robot is being erected at Tokyo’s Odaiba seaside park. It is scheduled to be unveiled on July 11 and can be viewed until Aug. 31 — part of Gundam’s birthday celebrations."
Gundam at Odaiba Park in Tokyo July 7, 2009. For those who dont know what Gundams are, here's a brief Wiki definition: - Quote :
- Gundam (ガンダム, Gandamu?) is a metaseries of Japanese anime, featuring giant robots, or "mecha", created by Sunrise studios. The series started in April 1979 as a TV series called Mobile Suit Gundam, and later became a franchise name with more sequels, prequels, side stories and alternative timelines, published and aired in various media including TV anime, OVA, manga, novels, and video games. Gundam became a collective term for 7 different time lines, all featuring their own story-lines, with a few common denominators and war machines called Gundam.
